The term lumberjack usually refers to a bygone era when hand tools were used in harvesting trees principally from Richwood virgin forest.
Because of Richwood historical ties to the American logging industry, the term lumberjack has become ingrained in Richwood culture through folklore, and spectator sports.
Richwood High School is the home to the Lumberjack Express Band and Richwood Lumberjacks Football team. The band has made many appearances in parades, festivals, and events throughout the Country and for those who don't live near Richwood anymore, the Lumberjacks have done us all proud, one game short of a state championship in 2009! Check out The Register-Herald, Beckley, West Virginia
